What Battlestar Galactica Taught Me About Healthcare “Reform”
July 4th, 2009
bytestyle.tv “The politicians tell us free market health care doesn’t work, but we haven’t had a free market in decades.” PLEASE READ: www.downsizedc.org www.downsizedc.org www.breakthematrix.com New Report from the Congressional Budget Office: * Enacting this proposal would result in a net increase in federal budget deficits of about .0 trillion * According to the CBO, this legislation will leave at least 36 million Americans uninsured * It will force at least 23 million Americans to give …
Nothing is “just that simple”. You obviously have no idea of the dynamics of public and private systems.
If a public health option would destroy private insurance, then Social Security would have destroyed private pensions, USPS would have destroyed Fedex and UPS, FHA insured loans would have destroyed non-FHA insured loans, and public universities would destroy private ones.
Obviously, none of this is true, the exact opposite is true. Competition yields greater benefits. Basic economics.
If you feel that it is ok for insurance companies to pay millions in salaries to execs, while denying coverage to ‘insured’ people, then that’s your moral decision to make. To the rest of the industrialized world (of which your HC system ranks poorly) profit is not something to make on the suffering of others. Govt. HC’s mandate is providing not denying benefits, the exact opposite of a private company. More money for less coverage is what you are advocating. Sad.
All your talking points are typical republican lies. I’d rather have a government run health care system like they do in France and Canada, than have one run by the insurance companies which have every incentive to deny people coverage and care and which makes money from people’s suffering.
BSG FTW!!!!!!! Whooot!
…BSG and cute chicks are two things I like. Im sold!
DEATH TO THE NEW WORLD ORDER!
Rofl. Ohhhh. so when she says “Galactica’s health care is universal what she really meant was “its NOT universal.”
Got it now.
Duh indeed. ROFL.
insurance companies are the cylons. example: they charge $20 a week for coverage. you get hurt and can’t pay and need $30 a week for care. how does a company not go broke? they deny care, then drop coverage, then label you with preexiting condition. then your forced into medicare anyway… thats how they get money for lobbists and billions in bonuses for ceo’s. just imagine if the police where privatly run. everyone would be in jail so the stockholders can get rich and the ceo can retire
This is my call to internet geeks, sci-fi geeks, and geeks at every level. You must understand the populace that you are trying to pitch this message to Shelly is cute, which is a great start, but “US healthcare reform plan is just like a battlestar gallactica episode?” I’m sort of geeky and I stopped paying attention. If you want people to reject psychotic ideas like government controlled healthcare and government controlled climates, then we need to work on our sales pitch!
Thats funny….thats the exact system you have. Its not the poor that need this like food stamps there covered, its the self employed, under employed and small buisnesses who have to try to shell out $8000 a year to line the pockets of insurance fat cats, and then there still only covered for %80 usually. This is bigger than any Regan tax cut, people are stuck in there jobs afraid to step out on there own, this is huge for capitalisim.Did you know the CEO of blue cross made 35 million last year?
Actually breast augs are a perfect example of how the system should work. You can shop around for the best doctor, the best price, get what you pay for. The present solution is somewhat akin to solving the hunger problem by putting every single American on food stamps. As Milton Friedman observed, the government solution is worse than the problem.
Actually thats why Obamas plan is going to work so well, Its something Canada has done as well too, Its a 2 teir system, If you feel impaitent or you feel like someones dragging there feet, Feel free to go pay for it. We have surgery centres all over the place, I dont know anyone who has used one , they are usually for titty jobs, but they bring in all kinds of specialists if need be. And you as well can keep sending your citizens up here for the more frequent times when your system breaks
LGLF1 when your life’s on the line and your government is in no hurry to fix the problem, a lot of times you FIND the money. You keep your health care system and we’ll keep ours (for the times when yours breaks). You need the protection.
V-Chip everyone so no one will get lost, let the Govt decide who is worthy to live ,who dies. Govt assisted suicide mandatory?
She says healthcare on battlestar galactica isnt universal dumbass. Watch the whole video and read the whole comment before you make ignorant statements like a pubescent teenage girl. Using the specific part where they land on New Caprica isnt the most reletive part of BSG in regards to healthcare either. Perhaps you should just keep the snark to a minimum when you are clearly uninformed.
Who the fuck says ‘duh’ in reality, let alone on youtube?! Work on it.
Yup keep drinkin back that Kool-aid. Like I say I know of no one who has ever or would ever seek treatment in the US. not saying there isint any, but show me these people and Ill show you someone with alot more money than the avrage person. But aparently thats all of you who are willing to pay hundreds a month plus huge co-pays fro any actual procedures youll get. Ill just stay up here and live in the house I owned since 21,drive my new vehicle watch you debate evrything we already got on my50″
Yeah, how does one family group own 58% of the wealth on the planet and enslave Americans to pay for the bail-out of thier banking and insurance corporations? Seems like they’ve created the fascist NWO through international banking control!
Making a radical change in our “personal view of money” is the only way to get at the root of our current social ills! On every level of our society, our system of finance and privately controlled worldwide banking, devours our ability (privately and nationaly) to make compasionate, realistic, healthcare reform! In this country, our great document the Constitution, has been subversively undermined by the Rothchilds, international banking for profit and political control, money making system!
Government Beaureaucrats? Um, obviously you haven’t had the misfortune yet of getting injured and having to deal with an insurance company rep. I have. They are just as bad if not worse than a government beaureaucrat. Worse, actually, because they have an agenda of denying you care to give themselves a bonus. We need real reform, away from the for-profit greedy bastards who have the power over life and death. A hot girl on a youtube video doesn’t change that reality.
I am not talking about the current government proposal. Its a massive waste of tax money for very little benefit. Im talking about a singlepayer alternative that isnt being considered by the Obama admin. Singlepayer is supported (as of ‘09) by the majority of physicians (59%), the majority of the American public (59%), as well as the American College of Physicians, the Physicians for a National Health Program, the American Medical Student Association and the California Nurse’s Association.
“blah blah blah” doesnt change the simple fact that our system of education and medical research is separate from the health insurance industry.
There are no “meaningless distinctions” between University hospitals & labs and the health insurance industry.
The two serve entirely different roles in the health system.
You prove to me that research and insurance are the same, because simply dismissing it with “blah blah blah” and calling them “meaningless distinctions” 4 times will not suffice.
God Bless you for your efforts we have all gotta do something. this is not one of those “somebody should do something” things. This is a “I should do something” thing.
The healthcare crisis in our country is caused entirely by government intervention in the first place. More government intervention is just pouring gasoline onto the fire. Heck, no American has health insurance because government has made it illegal to offer true health insurance.
Whif.
I WAS agreeing with you, but you missed it. I guess we’re even now.
